Located near Cold Lake, Alberta, the Christina Lake steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) facility is one of the major oilsands assets held by Cenovus (previously Encana).
Bantrel provided front-end and detailed engineering and procurement services for Phase 1B of the Christina Lake Thermal project, which included debottlenecking and expansion with resulting production at the facility doubling from 10,000 to 20,000 barrels per day. Cenovus has since completed several additional expansion phases at Christina Lake and has multiple ongoing projects at the facility today.
Bantrel completed the DBM and FEED services for a 30,000 bpd SAGD facility. We performed numerous scoping studies to determine steam generator configuration, optimal steam-oil ratio, sulphur recovery, and optimal well pad configuration.
The DBM was completed on time and on budget. After the completion of the DBM, Encana elected to use the existing Foster Creek design for Phase 2.
