Cenovus DRU
In 2020, after successful completion of a Pre-FEED study, Bantrel embarked on a FEED study for the Cenovus Diluent Recovery Unit project, with a similar total installed cost to that anticipated for the Azure project. The facility was being evaluated to remove diluent prior to shipping bitumen by rail in the adjacent Bruderheim terminal and included water treatment units, sour water and acid gas treating and utilities and offsites (included units such as electrical power and distribution systems, flare, plant and instrument air, cooling water system and product tankage). The project involved many key studies, including a source water screening study (i.e. river water versus municipal water), alternative feedstock studies and tank foundation studies. The project successfully transitioned to a full work from home model and was completed on schedule and on budget, culminating in a Class 3 cost estimate produced after six months of engineering.
