Bantrel expertise associated with in situ facilities is extensive and spans a wide range of SAGD operations, from as small as 9,000 barrels per day (bpd) to massive projects with capacity greater than 115,000 bpd. Bantrel has been involved with conceptual designs, Design Base Memorandums (DBMs), Engineering Design Specifications (EDSs) / Front-end Engineering Design (FEED) packages and has been responsible for design and construction of SAGD facilities for major oilsands developers.
In addition, Bantrel has designed and built several cogeneration power plants associated with SAGD facilities, including the largest single train Gas Turbine Generator / Once Through Heat Recovery Steam Generator combination installed in the Alberta’s oilsands. Bantrel is also involved in development work related to several emerging in situ technologies.
Petroleum refining is an industrial process where crude oil is processed and refined into more useful petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, kerosene, and liquefied petroleum gas.
When it comes to refineries, Bantrel does everything from maintenance projects, infrastructure revamps and turnarounds to design, construction and start-up of complex grassroots facilities.
In conjunction with our parent company Bechtel, we have been involved with more refining projects in North America than any other single EPC contractor. Among our signature projects is the design and construction of the Shell Scotford Upgrader Expansion 1.
Bechtel designed and built both the extraction and upgrading facilities at the first large scale commercial surface mining operation for Great Canadian oilsands Company, now known as Suncor Energy, in the early 1960s. In the 1970s, Bechtel was involved in the construction of Syncrude’s Mildred Lake extraction facilities north of Fort McMurray.
More recently, Bantrel was responsible for the design and construction of Suncor Energy’s Steepbank Mine Ore Preparation Plant. Bantrel has also been responsible for numerous conceptual designs and Design Basis Memoranda (DBMs) for surface mining and extraction facilities on behalf of several oilsands developers.
